Here's How You Can Increase Your Warehouse Capacity
When considering a warehouse on lease, the first question one asks is about its capacity. One often enquires about the capacity that the warehouse can hold and the area that can be utilised for storage.
What really matters is the way a warehouse is used to store goods. Despite the available space of the warehouse in Jaipur, you can increase the storage capacity with proper planning. Review the available space and design in such a manner that maximises the space utility by incorporating the following tips:
- Vertical Spacing – Usually, people extend the storage space to keep things handy, but this takes up lots of space. Stacking products vertically saves lots of space and helps in easy segregation of products. The thing to consider here is the placement of sprinklers and fire protection system.
- Storage Depth – In place of single-depth storage, consider using other options like double-depth rack spacing. This increases the storage area by reducing the number of aisles. Storage in this set-up should be made in a way that accessibility to goods is easy, especially in FIFO (first in first out) method. This storage is useful for putting non-seasonal goods.
- Aisle Width – The width of aisles can be reduced to fit in more racks. The aisles must be set at a width that facilitates easy movement of stock (keeping and withdrawing them) and lift equipment. Space must be sufficient for lift equipment to move and function; neither broad to waste the space nor narrow to hinder the functionality.
- Mezzanine Area – If stacking goods vertically does not suit the product type, opt for installing a mezzanine. It will require an extra cost and durability and strength of mezzanine are the major concerns. This will help in increasing warehouse space and can be used as a receiving or shipping area.
- Slot Sizes – The size of the storage slot also matters. Set the storage slot as per the sales volume and do not stick to single slot size. Use 2-3 slot sizes so that goods can be taken as per the requirement and least storage space is wasted in dividing the stock according to the order.
- Drop-Shipping – Drop-shipping is a good option to save inventory keeping cost, time, and space. For products with frequent demand and large volume sales, consider drop-shipping where goods are directly sent to the customer from the manufacturer or wholesaler. This saves storage space and time of loading and unloading.
